Okay, this has irked me long enough.

I'm against the death penalty. I'm not, however anti-abortion.
Yet people who are anti-abortion and pro-death penalty can call themselves pro-life and I can't. Nom-de-gueu*! I know I've mentioned this before, but this time I mean it. I'm going to start calling myself pro-life, and I would like it if all my friends who are against the death penalty, regardless of their feelings on abortion, consider doing the same. I won't stop until the hypocrisy stops.
*This is an attempt to spell one Walloon pronunciation of "Nom de Dieu" correctly. In standardized Walloon, the word for God is "Dju", but this in no way reflects the pronuciation I grew up with. So, after much talk with my mother, we came up with that transcription. This transcription is based on French spelling conventions, the English pronunciation is something like "gyur". If anybody knows of an official transcription of that pronunciation, please let me know. Thank you!

2. Many countries have free, universal health care. Is this a bad thing?

Date: 2003-12-17 12:30 am (UTC)Universal health care is not free, it's paid for in high taxes and such. I love the idea of universal health care, but just handing out pills is a bad idea in my opinion. There is too much risk of bad drug combinations and mixtures.

Also the fact that you can't undo a death sentence, should someone happen to be not guilty. So I'm anti death penalty. But I'm also anti-prison. Because really, the system just sucks.
