About lying.

God DAMN it! I HATE THIS. It is so wrong that people are constantly REWARDED for being duplicitous. I can't even get past page 1 - it upsets me so. :-(

I'm curious about the button pushing experiment and the 1/3rd second time. I'm wondering if it takes into consideration the lag time between mental thought and physical action. If I recall correctly, 1/3rd of a second is a fairly typical reaction time for, say, someone to brake when a deer runs across the road.

That is exactly what I was going to bring up. I don't like the analysis of that experiment. It takes time to realize you made a decision, recall that you are supposed to note the time on the clock, and then determine what the time on the clock is. It may not seem like time, but 1/3 of a second isn't a lot of time, and we don't normally think about the small bits of effort we put into everyday tasks like that.

I think about honesty a lot, because I almost never tell lies of comission. I don't mind spin, lies of omission, or deliberately misleading people. And I don't mind lies that should be obvious to the hearer that they are lies (generally for humor value). But I dislike outright lies told to make someone believe something false. This causes me endless trouble and tends to annoy most of the people I speak with.
