That`s just infuriating.

And the author is completely right - what *if* they start denying life saving or life prolonging medication based on their so self proclaimed "conscience"? When and how will the madness stop?

My older cousin is a pharmacist and thank heavens he lives in a country where people`s rights to care for and control their bodies are still secure. I`m sure this would disgust him. >_

If I were a pharmacist, part of me would want to not fill prescriptions for antibiotics. The more people use antibiotics, the more antibiotic resistant strains will develop. They're a limited resource. (Yes, we are making more, but it's a constant war to stay ahead of the evolution of bacteria.) So, everyone I keep from using them improves my chances of having an antibiotic that works if I get sick or someone I love does.

Well, I wouldn't really want to deny antibiotics to others, because I'm not a monster. If someone truly needs them, they should get them. But I could make a good case for denying them for moral reasons based on me placing more value on the lives of my loved ones than on thelives of strangers.

There's quite a few professions I can think of that I wouldn't take up, because they'd expect me to do things that go against my conscience. If you know going in that a profession is going to expect you do to do things that are against your conscience, that's a pretty good indicator that you shouldn't go into that profession. Period.

I don't even see why this is an issue. Any pharmacist not willing to do their job should be fired.

Yep. I train horses, but I really don't like doing it for people who mistreat their horses and/or do things in ways I don't agree with. If they expect me to do something I won't do...I simply won't do it, and I move on to a different place (if I can), and they can hire someone else who WILL do it more their way. Thankfully now that my husband can support us with his wonderful new job, I don't have to worry about potentially using my professional-level skill against my own morals. Like I mentioned as an idea in my comment below, I can perhaps eventually have my own farm to train horses the way I feel is most beneficial to everyone. That way, I'm not "holding someone back" from training horses I think are too young to carry a person along with heavy training yet, and I'm not doing something I think is borderline abusive. People who want their horses trained (if I do decide to train others' horses) can choose whichever style they think is better for them and their horses.

What these people need to do is open up THEIR OWN pharmacies and leave the "normal" ones unchindered by their "style of practice." Let those who agree with that kind of thing go to THEIR pharmacies and allow the more commonly-used ones (Wal Mart, Walgreens, CVS, Revco, Eckerd, etc. around here for example), where you'd EXPECT to be able to get your prescriptions filled, to actually fill those prescriptions.
