I got to thinking about this... Embarassing as it is to admit, I have crushes on three, count 'em, three guys in the buffyverse... Oz, Xander, and Spike. And, as we go on, I'm more than mildly crushing on Daniel Jackson (SG1).... I'm a fangirl. It's depressing. But then I started wondering...

Is it possible to be a fangirl* of someone who isn't stereotypically fangirled? Conversely, is there anyone fangirled who really shouldn't be? For example, I'm not a fan of Orlando Bloom, he just doesn't look all that good mihi.

And thus ends my stereotypical post of the day. I shall post a "valleygirl"** version later, for your amusement. Or perhaps I'll shoot myself first.

*Fangirl in this case is NON-gender specific.

***quotes her old joke* So, I was at the mall? And I saw this guy? And he was SOOOO HOT!!! *giggle*

Oh, and on a related note... am I the only one who wants to date Calvin of Calvin and Hobbes? Not 6-year-old Calvin, grown-up Calvin, get your minds out of the gutter. By now, he'd be my age, about, if he had aged steadily from the start of the strip....

Yay for Daniel Jackson!

And I don't see why the object of one's fangirlness must be someone who is stereotypically fangirled... Is not being a fangirl independent of whether the fangirlee is fangirled by others?

Hmm, never thought of it that way, and still really don't see why one would have to fangirl only stereotypically fangirlable (and fangirled) persons... Maybe my lexical entry for "fangirl" isn't specific enough?

I've only started getting into watching Buffy, but I don't blame you for likign any of those three. I like Xander in the he's-just-plain-awesome way, but that may be in part because the first episode I ever watched had him dressed as a pirate and he had the same costume that I have ^-^ Though he looks better in it.

Ahem. I'm looking forward to your valleygirl version, seeing as I live there X_x

She wouldn't be the first. *sighs* The tragedy of having a mainly male dominated name.

What am I supposed to ask her?

Psshaw, Professor X?

Sorry, but Patrick Stewart on screen to me can never be anybody but Jean-Luc Picard... So much so that when my friend and I bought tickets to X-Men, we had to restrain ourselves from asking for tickets for "Star Trek X," since Captain Picard had a leading role in a movie with "X" in the title, and the last Trek movie before that was Insurrection (IX.)

What can I say, I've been spoiled. Just like how Scott Bakula can never be anyone for me but Sam Beckett. Seeing him as Archer on Enterprise just feels so... wrong. But don't get me started on Enterprise...

BTW, since you've mentioned Daniel Jackson, what do you think of Michael Shanks' new haircut? He looks more stereotypically 'hot' with the short hair, but I thought he was cuter with his hair the way it was in the early seasons. Not that it matters for me, since I'm not generally attracted to men anyway.

Hah! Michael Dorn w/o forehead = Who Now? :)

And continuing on theh SG1 tangent, the important thing about Daniel Jackson is that he's just so... Daniel Jackson. Did you ever see "1969?" My favorite scene from that episode: (if you haven't seen it, they get stuck in, well, 1969, and to set up the scene, they've been cornered by USAF peoples from that time)

USAF Dude: Ты советский шпион?
Jackson: Нет!
[USAF dudes grab and detain SG1]

Oh, Daniel Jackson.

Yes, SG1 is on DVD. But I don't think the later seasons are. My friend Oliver has the first few seasons I think. I need to steal borrow them from him some time.

And I'm supposedly doing my Russian paper. What are you doing up, then?

You win. I'm hitting the sack. The Russian Language will still be here tomorrow for me to mangle horribly.

BTW, did you get the Russian bit from the SG1 scene? That's another thing I love about the show... they use real Russian but they only subtitle it when it's essential to the plot; if you happen to know Russian, you get so much more out of the show! That scene wasn't subtitled, and if you don't know Russian then you miss the irony of the situation... :)

USAF: Are you a soviet spy?
Jackson: No!

That's why I love Daniel Jackson. :)

And now, I'm really going to bed.

that would be great if i knew how. you know, the thing is, is that while i could see their point about calvin, i really think i'd consider myself to be more like hobbes anyway. um, not that it matters.. but anyway, i hope you find calvin or hobbes. or if you find both that you can decided between the two ;D

personally, i've always liked willow. the main reason to watch buffy ;p

I knew someone very Calvin-ish but in an even cheerier way.

I still grieve his murder last year. :`( He would be 21 this year.

I will soon have a LJ icon of him.

From Buffy - Spike and Giles
From SG1 - Daniel and sometimes Jack but only from the earlier series in Daniel's case and the later series in Jack's.

Someone who isn't stereotypically fangirled? Oliver Platt in lake Placid. I've got a thing about cuddly men with facial hair - hence the hubby!
