I've got a fangirlish question...
Dec. 16th, 2003 02:40 amI got to thinking about this... Embarassing as it is to admit, I have crushes on three, count 'em, three guys in the buffyverse... Oz, Xander, and Spike. And, as we go on, I'm more than mildly crushing on Daniel Jackson (SG1).... I'm a fangirl. It's depressing. But then I started wondering...
Is it possible to be a fangirl* of someone who isn't stereotypically fangirled? Conversely, is there anyone fangirled who really shouldn't be? For example, I'm not a fan of Orlando Bloom, he just doesn't look all that good mihi.
And thus ends my stereotypical post of the day. I shall post a "valleygirl"** version later, for your amusement. Or perhaps I'll shoot myself first.
*Fangirl in this case is NON-gender specific.
***quotes her old joke* So, I was at the mall? And I saw this guy? And he was SOOOO HOT!!! *giggle*
Oh, and on a related note... am I the only one who wants to date Calvin of Calvin and Hobbes? Not 6-year-old Calvin, grown-up Calvin, get your minds out of the gutter. By now, he'd be my age, about, if he had aged steadily from the start of the strip....

Date: 2003-12-16 12:11 am (UTC)And I don't see why the object of one's fangirlness must be someone who is stereotypically fangirled... Is not being a fangirl independent of whether the fangirlee is fangirled by others?

Date: 2003-12-16 12:24 am (UTC)Try saying that three times fast.
But anyway... does that mean I can be a fangirl of whomever I want? *goes to pick out some obscure hottie to stalk*

Date: 2003-12-16 12:36 am (UTC)I'd fangirl Sejanus, but he became famous as Picard/Professor X....

Date: 2003-12-16 12:37 am (UTC)What am I supposed to ask her?

Date: 2003-12-16 12:41 am (UTC)"Oh. Migod. I did not just sound like a valley girl".
Yes Lizziey, you did.
She's really quite talented at "code-switching", going from one dialect to another, I actually envy her. That's why I tease her about it, of course.

Date: 2003-12-16 12:43 am (UTC)Sorry, but Patrick Stewart on screen to me can never be anybody but Jean-Luc Picard... So much so that when my friend and I bought tickets to X-Men, we had to restrain ourselves from asking for tickets for "Star Trek X," since Captain Picard had a leading role in a movie with "X" in the title, and the last Trek movie before that was Insurrection (IX.)
What can I say, I've been spoiled. Just like how Scott Bakula can never be anyone for me but Sam Beckett. Seeing him as Archer on Enterprise just feels so... wrong. But don't get me started on Enterprise...
BTW, since you've mentioned Daniel Jackson, what do you think of Michael Shanks' new haircut? He looks more stereotypically 'hot' with the short hair, but I thought he was cuter with his hair the way it was in the early seasons. Not that it matters for me, since I'm not generally attracted to men anyway.

Date: 2003-12-16 12:47 am (UTC)But if I'm right about what season I'm currently watching... eh. He was better when he looked like himself, I agree.
Which reminds me. I know who I can stalk! Worf! Not Michael Dorn, ick, but Worf, who looked SO much better once he tied his hair back, which is how it reminded me.
Dear god that was tangential.

Date: 2003-12-16 12:58 am (UTC)And continuing on theh SG1 tangent, the important thing about Daniel Jackson is that he's just so... Daniel Jackson. Did you ever see "1969?" My favorite scene from that episode: (if you haven't seen it, they get stuck in, well, 1969, and to set up the scene, they've been cornered by USAF peoples from that time)
USAF Dude: Ты советский шпион?
Jackson: Нет!
[USAF dudes grab and detain SG1]
Oh, Daniel Jackson.

NOT cleaning.
NOT sleeping (duh)
Hm. I know! I'll say I'm waiting up for Santa. *nodnodnod* It's seasonally appropriate, and only slightly silly.

Date: 2003-12-16 01:15 am (UTC)BTW, did you get the Russian bit from the SG1 scene? That's another thing I love about the show... they use real Russian but they only subtitle it when it's essential to the plot; if you happen to know Russian, you get so much more out of the show! That scene wasn't subtitled, and if you don't know Russian then you miss the irony of the situation... :)

Date: 2003-12-16 01:19 am (UTC)I don't speak Russian. Latin, that's about it. And Spanish. And a little (very little) French/Walloon.
I should go to bed too... I just don't wanna!

Date: 2003-12-16 11:53 am (UTC)From SG1 - Daniel and sometimes Jack but only from the earlier series in Daniel's case and the later series in Jack's.
Someone who isn't stereotypically fangirled? Oliver Platt in lake Placid. I've got a thing about cuddly men with facial hair - hence the hubby!
