Date: 2005-05-03 04:02 pm (UTC)Anyone who thinks Star Trek sucks can meet my on the playground, by the swings, suckas.
Sure it was low-budget, and most of the acting was godawful, but Gene Roddenberry was an idealist whose ideas were just ... ahead of his time I like to think. The show featured T.V.'s first interracial kiss. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. himself praised Nichelle Nichols' role in the show and told her she couldn't leave as she was a wonderful role model for black women. And did you ever see the episode about the Constitution?
Fie on anyone who pooh-poohs Star Trek!

Date: 2005-05-03 05:39 pm (UTC)Also in my opinion, that of an inveriate geek, who read all of the authors OSC mentions in his little rant by age 8, to put Issac Azimov Ursula leGuin, Arthur C Clarke, and Robert Heinlien in the same sentence positively, is painfull. Issac, bless his cotton socks, was far to hit and miss with his naritive. While his ideas were always brilliant, sometimes his prose was godawful. there are plenty of Azimov books i've read till they disintergrated, and just as many that neer got finished. Ursula couldnt even claim that, she wrote far more crap than gold, and has been struck of my list of readable authors. Clarke and Hienlien are gods, no arguements there, but very little of their stuff is workable into a visual medium. they were authors, not tv writers or film makers.
And then to mention moorcock...
I wonder if O.S.C. has read any of moorcock's stuff properly? Espicaly the newer stuff. Where he either spins varaiations on the themes of his old books, or apologises profusely about his tardiness, and shitniess because his imagination no longer works now he can no longer take LSD without risking fatal brain damage. (from a forward of a book released in 95 I think, I'd have to check). Oops i guess mike was just good at writign down his drug trips, which explains the lack of coherency and levels of contradiction, even within individual books. It's no suprise to me that there are volumes and volumes of his stuff that i have copies of that are missing from his "complete works" collection published through the mid-late 90s
Sorry to these "distinguished" authors, but so many of the scifi authors from the 60's and 70's are such utter cock heads now. Pissed off that the world didn't turn out the way you invisigeoned 40 years ago? then fucking DO something about it, stop bitching. And stop taking up shelf space, wood pulp and column length that could be dedicated to young writers.
Sighs. If john lennon came back from the dead and started bitching out emnem for being a regressive fuck, it would have much more validity than this.
At least both are popular artists in the same freaking field. Not a moderatelty popular artist in one field sniping at a hugely popular artist in another.
