I was amused when you said you thought Each Peach Pear Plum should be a classic but isn't. I can't imagine a single child here not having heard it. Indeed I can still recite the entire book.

It's not well known in the US at all. In fact, I only heard about it the past year or so, with many (startled!) pleasant reviews.
