Not screening a movie about volcanoes because it might "offend" people who don't believe in evolution? Bullshit. If it offends them so fucking much, they don't have to fucking watch it. I didn't watch Passion of the Christ, and you know what? The world didn't end because I decided not to see it.

Now, onto cooler things...

Soft tissue found in T. Rex fossil.

Isn't that just the coolest thing you've ever heard?

Eh, the IMAX directors are running a business. In their role as business owners or managers, they are responsible for making (at times unpopular) decisions which they believe will benefit their business. I'd say it's a safe bet that a movie that even seems to endorse evolution is not going to do as well in a small Southern town as it might in, say, L.A. If I were an IMAX director, I would certainly want to screen movies that I knew (or at least assumed) would make the most profit, unless I could afford otherwise. Perhaps these particular theaters simply lack the capital to bring in movies that probably won't do well just because it's politically correct or what have you.

And when I say "make the most profit," I really mean "bring in the most revenue." Somehow the former just seems incorrect.

Ah I see. Hmm...yes, I feel as though I'm in sort of a bind. Of course I support their right to protest. I also believe that boycotts, even on a personal level, are a good way of silently "protesting" something you don't support, especially in a capitalist system. Every dollar is like a vote, and so I every dollar I spend on an IMAX movie is telling someone that yes, I support this, keep on doing it! The opposite holds true of course. It really irks me, though, they don't want to even hear other viewpoints. How can you really know what you believe if you aren't even certain of the opposite point of view? *sigh*

'S not hypocrisy. You support their right to free speech, and resent their being idiots. :)
