Not at all related, but felt like tossing a few links your way: George Widener (http://www.savantartist.com/articles/GregWallace.html) is a high-functioning autistic, growing up in a time when Asperger's didn't 'exist'--and was thus diagnosed with depression and schizoid personality disorder. He later joined the military, then 'drifted' for several years.

And now, he makes highly mathematical pieces of art. Which are gorgeous.

The Widener Project (found on the same page), is trying to document his life as thoroughly as possible--sound recording, images, etc, and are taking a thooughly humanistic approach to Mr. Widener.

And this guy (http://www.outsiderart.co.uk/widenernote.htm) is attempting a scholarly article on Widener, and, well...

Now, to stay SLIGHTLY on-topic, I beleive I.D. should stay in World Religions class--and compare and contrast ALL theories of I.D., from Arabic folktales to Zoroastarianism. They openly admit the religious aspect--so teach it in a comparative relgions class.

Oh, I just thought it would be an interesting look at the mind of guy a born long before there was any sort of recognition of what his mind was actually like.

Gee, that's convoluted.

The problem with the concept of intelligent design is it depends on the idea that the world shows signs of intelligent design. Everywhere I look I see signs of idiotic design. We have an appendix whose only role is to sometimes require surgery or kill us. We combine our reproductive organs with our organs for excretion. Sometimes our bodies misreproduce cells and create cancer. Sometimes our immune systems attack our own brain. Sometimes our reaction to a pathogen is so strong that it will kill us while the pathogen would not or is, in fact, completely harmless (such as peanut allergies). Stupid, stupid, stupid. Everywhere I look I see signs of either random creation or a moronic creator. So, if we were designed, we were made by an idiot.

The argument to counter this is usually that "God works in mysterious ways" or "You as a human cannot comprehend why things are as they are". Which boils down to the "theory" of intelligent design is based on the idea that humans can't recognize intelligent design when they see it, but it's there, and just take it on faith while you watch people suffering in pain that serves no purpose whatsoever.
