Personally, I think the Dursleys are just the type to force a kid to write right-handed because it's "normal" (whatever that means). Funny thing, though, even if you write with your right-hand, the basic neurology that makes you a lefty doesn't change. You're still left-handed. Just like sleeping with guys doesn't make a gay girl straight, and looking people in the eye doesn't make you non-autistic.
In fact, I'd be rather surprised at the behavioural change that could effect* a change in your neurology.
