Anthro was canceled, so I'm heading home to Jenn after updating my journal, checking my FList.

Listen, guys? If you signed up for the Frienditto thingy, and gave them your password, you're an idiot. Go change it now, and if any of your other things share that password, or a similar one, change those too. And then go smack yourself for being stupid. NEVER GIVE UP YOUR PASSWORD. Except for a very good reason, for example, to allow your relatives to have access to your email account after you die.

That said, here's another, tangentially related warning. Nothing is that secure. LiveJournal isn't a fortress of security (redundant, yeah). Even if nobody gives up their passwords, there's always a chance that things can go wahooni-shaped and somebody can see your locked posts without your permission. Not a huge chance, I think, but have a little care. If it's that important that nobody knows where you buried the body, don't post about it. At all. Keep it to yourself and take it to the grave.

Yeah, it's stupid to give out your password to anything. Lucas learned that the hard way. He didn't know any better, and I never thought to explain it to him. On Runescape, someone offered him something in exchange for his username and password. Then he stole Lucas' account. You know, the PAID account he used MY checking account and routing numbers for. Heh. Then I explained to him what "Karma" is, and that it's a bitch. :p

I'd be willing to bet that at least someone has accessed to my friends-only entries who I haven't granted access to. There are between 50 and 60 people on my friends list and I would be absolutely shocked if none of them had shared their password with SOs or best friends or some such, or left a public computer logged in, or whatever.

It's not likely that any of them would know enough about me to be able to leak any sensitive info to people who I'd want things hidden from, but I always work under the assumption that there are people who I neither know nor trust who are able to see my entries.

Oh, I know a bunch of mine were, for a while.

A friend of mine walked out on her abusive husband, and she didn't change her LJ password. By the time she realized this, she realized he'd been reading the friends-only stuff based on things he was saying to people who he thought still liked him.

Therefore, we faked a nice little LJ Drama of our own deliberately to destroy his head, then the password got changed and he was unfriended from all of us in a nice synchronized expulsion.
