I'm clumsy. Klutzy. Uncoordinated. Awkward, at times. Prone to stubbing my toe. I drop stuff because I forget I'm holding it. I can't catch or throw a ball... well, I can, now, but even now I'm prone to drop it, to wildly miss my mark, or to insanely over/undershoot.

And I spill food. I wasn't lying when I said to [livejournal.com profile] rho that I spill food every time I eat. Well. I might've been exaggerating slightly. I rarely spill long pasta, and I can usually avoid spilling solid fruit or peanut butter sandwiches, that sort of thing. And the spillage lessens when I use my fingers instead of silverware. I was so happy when I realized that I could do that when by myself :)

But here's the embarassing confession. I'm not always so hot at the "keep your mouth closed" part of eating. When I was little, it was easy to attribute this to my horribly crooked teeth (this also explained away my speech problems). Later, my mom realized that, like her, I'd had a huge problem breathing through my nose. This made eating with my mouth shut hard, because I'd suffocate.

But now my sinus problems are (mostly) cleared up, and my teeth are (pretty much) straight... and yet, sometimes, I'll find myself mouth closed, mouth closed, chew, chew, still closed, oops, there's some food falling out of your mouth!

And I don't know why this happens.

I know why I spill bringing food from plate to mouth - I'm clumsy.
I know why I mutilate food while cutting it - I'm uncoordinated.
I know why I always try to get other people to put the food on my plate - nobody likes to clean up the table.

But why the chewing thing? Didn't I outgrow this?

You're me.

But I'm without corrected sinus or teeth. Or jaws. (My overbite used to be an over an inch... *monty python* but it's gotten better!) Or speech problem. If I become a teacher when I'm older, unless I get significantly better, any kid with an R featured prominantly in their name is getting a neckname. Like "Billy-Jo."

Iono. For me it wasn't food so much as continually. open. mouth. I could close when I chewed, but somehow, I always forgot to whenever I showered. White leads to a Note: shampoo tastes horrible, and you can't get used to it.

But about the chewing thing... maybe it's just a habit now? You've done it for at least a couple of decades, why would you brain decide to stop now?
