...and they just got to a part on embalming, where they say that "ironically, the man who pushed for enbalming during the civil war himself becomes a recipient of the practice".

Arg! That's not ironic! It's fitting! It'd be ironic if he didn't become a recipient of the practice, get it right!

It seems that the concept of irony is something that many people aside from Alanis Morrisette have difficulty grasping. I like Baldrick's (from Black Adder) definition:

"It's like goldsy and bronzy only made of iron."

*loves you for both references*

I get so sick of explaining the irony in that song.

And also... Blackadder.

The situation in the OP would also be ironic if embalming where a bad thing.

There's irony in that song?

Anyway, here's something I'd like to put into a short story, if I ever decide I want to write one...

"Did you know the guy who pushed for embalming during the civil war was embalmed?"

"I don't know much about the civil war, other than battles and generals and Harriet Beecher Stowe and stuff like that, but it would be kinda weird if he wasn't."

"Actually, I find it quite ironic."

"What's so ironic about the guy who wanted people to be embalmbed being embalmed?"

"It's ironic because he was still alive."

Yes, I've been reading too much Stephen King lately.

That is either very brilliant, or utterly stupid.
