Just click. Just...

My mom says that when she was younger, she dated a black guy. And she had a black friend who was dating a white guy, so they just double dated a lot in order to avoid getting bothered at restaurants. I really thought those days were over.

It makes me very scared as to where this country is going. My girlfriend and I are already young and poor, why do we have to be discriminated against TOO? :/

i wonder sometimes whether we are actually going forward, of on a slow, inexorable slide backwards ... sigh.

even now, i have seen people react with disgust to interracial relationships. personally, i think they are amazing, as the people in them are brave, breaking stereotypes and intolerance with love and i feel we should be celebrating these unions more than we are. however, i see intolerance from all sides all the time. i hear african women and men complain about their friends and family dating interracially, i hear asian and even hispanic people do it, as well as white people. the barrier of intolerance is coming up again, and it isnt just racial intolerance as the link shows.

one thing that made me mad was i was at a gay bar a few months back, and there were these two lesbians gossiping about thier friend who was dating a transexual. they were saying that she isnt a lesbian anymore because her girlfriend was once a man. i was disgusted as they were serious and were actually arguing with some of their other friends (all were drunk!) about it. you would think that we, as a minority would not be worrying about such things, but we do. i guess humanity is an expert and setting barriers and defeating itself.

Agreed. There was an interracial lesbian couple at my school, and I always thought their PDAs were a "fuck you" to the homophobic racist assholes on campus.

I work in a middle school now, and the other day there was a couple hugging - white boy, Asian girl. A group of students were grossed out by their "making out" and one referred to them as that "tall kid with that flat face girl." At first I thought it might have been that they were disgusted by the hugging part of it (eew cooties!), but then after that last part was said, I wonder how much of it was racial. Ugh.

That saddens me. One of the cutest couples I know is a sweet sweet white boy dating a sweet sweet Asian girl. If two people are really sweet on each other, who gives a shit what they look like, or if they're the same gender. With as much hatefulness running around in the world today, I'm more than happy to see love and adoration anywhere I can.

There have been questions as to whether this really was anti-gay discrimination because the Japanese frown on any kind of public display of affection, whether it is between two people of opposite sexes or two people of the same sex. It's possible the restaurant manager simply didn't like the PDA and didn't care what gender(s) the couple was.
