Whenever I tell people that I want Neville to kill Voldy, I get one of two replies:

1. But the books are about Harry, so that's not going to happen.

and

2. But didn't you hear about how Harry was marked as the Dark Lord's equal?

I also hear "yes, I want that too" but there's no point arguing with that.

Look, I *know* the books are about Harry. I'm not saying "this is what I expect", I'm saying "this is what I want". I want Neville to kill Voldy and Harry to die. That's not nearly the same as saying "I think that Neville will kill Voldy and Harry will die" because I don't think that. I think, in fact, that JKR is going to deliberately mess up the books for me by having Harry kill Voldy and survive. JKR is mean.

As for the second argument, yes, I heard that. However, nowhere does it say that only one of them can be marked as the Dark Lord's equal. There's still plenty of time for Voldy to mark Neville as an equal. It's still possible. He's not restricted to only one equal. Please *think*, people! Just because Dumbledore doesn't seem to think Neville is ever going to be a possibility ever again doesn't make it so. Dumbledore isn't omniscient, and he lies. Or, at least, doesn't tell the whole truth.

Okay, I'm done. Back to looking for Dudley fic, just to appease my sick curiousity (and thank you for posting the links). I'm starting to get despondant.

Harry has a personal vendetta with Voldemort. Neville's is more with Bellatrix.

What puzzles me abnout Neville is why he doesn't react to the Dementors as much as Harry. I mean, let's face it, Neville's worst memory is many times greater than Harry's...

Neville's just tougher than that Potter kid.

b) He was older than Harry by about a year (I think)
c) Harry couldn't remember his until the Dementors came along.

3. True. Maybe Neville just supressed his memory better? Or maybe Harry's a wunderkind - can you remember *anything* before you were two?

Actually, I agree with you. ::grin:: Or at least, I agree with you that I want the prophecy to mean something other than it seems to on the surface, because it's really going to disappoint me if it turns out to be incredibly obvious. I don't actually care that much what it means, as long as it's one of those surprising things where I end up making a face like "oO" and then giggling insanely about how I never saw THAT coming.

Especially when they're prophecies. Prophecies are supposed to be misleading, but worded so that when you think back, they really did say exactly what they meant to say, and you just interpreted them wrong.

Harry's my favourite HP character, and one of my top three favourite fictional characters as a whole, and even I really want him to die. It'd just be so much more satisfying.

Mind you though, I'd also quite like Voldemort to win- although this would hinder future creative attempts with the whole 'Hey, you got that bad guy winning thing from Harry Potter, didn't you?'

I did find quite a good fic a while back, where Dean turned out to be the one marked by Voldemort. It was quite good, if a little depressing.

hmm, I know I've read a few fics where Neville is the hero, I'll see if I can dig them up. I love reading fics where someone other than Harry defeats Voldemort (although I do love Harry as the hero too.)

By the way, I finished my Dudley list, well for now at least. There are some fabulous one shots there you should read, and A Year Like None Other has some great Dudley scenes, but they are in the middle of the fic.

i dont know what i want to see out of the whole HP saga. i think i know a few things that are going to happen, and i think your idea is quite interesting, i must admit i never thought it could happen. well harry dying, yes, i almost expect it, but neville killing voldemort ... interesting possibility. i definately expect neville's character to become major in the same aspect as hermione or ron.

one thing i do expect is that the dark mark will be seen over the weasley's house and one of them will die. i initially thought it was going to be mrs. weasley in book 5, but that was wrong, much to my surprise and sadness.

i also expect dumbledore to die either in book 6 at the end, or sometime in book 7. i cannot see him lasting the entire length of harry's tenure at hogwarts much more than i can see harry lasting or graduating. i see them having to go on in book 7, at the darkest hour the world of magic has known, and having to go on with the fight with mcgonagall or moody at the lead, and then the final, climactic battle with the house elves at their sides as well as a few giants, werewolves and all of the dispossessed peoples of the magic world.

i think jk is going to take a liberal angle and really expose some of the social injustices of our world and resolve them to her liking in her novels. it definately is going to be interesting.
