Well, exactly. All parents should teach their kids the skills necessary to get along in the world. That's the same whether the kid's autistic, blind, wheelchair-bound, or "normal."
I don't know what all this other stuff is about not wanting your kid to wear a Mickey Mouse costume or be so obsessive about trains or rock back and forth a lot or whatever. My parents never had a problem with me dressing up as Peter Pan for three years in a row, or rereading books until they were ragged. All kids are weird; the point of parenting is to keep them from setting themselves on fire, or other such things, while still encouraging the weirdness that doesn't hurt them or anyone else. Isn't it?
