Somebody on my friends list posted about the apple stem game, where (of course) you carefully would manipulate your apple stem twisting so as to end on the letter of the boy you liked.

I don't remember ever doing this growing up, though I vaguely knew about it. What we did do, though, a lot, was play "opposite day". We'd be in the cafeteria, eating lunch, and all of a sudden somebody at the table would declare it was "opposite day" and everything meant the opposite. So people would carefully switch their sentences so they wouldn't say something they didn't mean, and this would go on for about five minutes until somebody else declared "opposite opposite day". And then it was "opposite opposite opposite day". And so on.

And all this time I'd be reading my book, pretty much oblivious to everything, including the fact that it was lunchtime. If nobody poked me before the end of lunch, I'd have to gobble my sandwich between the table and the door. Again.

But if they say it's opposite day, that must mean that it ISN'T opposite day. And if they say, it's not same night, that's just weird and really confusing. *shrug*

I used to do the apple stem thing! I would pretend like I was sweet on a boy named Zachariah, so that the stem would have to last all the way to Z. Not that I've ever known a boy named Zachariah. Or I'd pretend that I liked a boy named Adam, so the stem had to break on the first letter.

I used to use 'Opposite day' to my advantage, I'd say something mean to my brother (Likey just "You stink!!") then call Opposite day, and he wouldn't think of it and say "You stink more!!" to which I'd skip off gleefully knowing I smelled very pretty.

Hmmm... I never heard of that apple stem game before, but in school we used to do the same thing with the little metal bits on top of cans: twist them back and forth until they broke off.

See, I would make everything opposite so I wouldn't end up saying anything.
Or rather...

Not I wouldn't make nothing the same so not I would begin not saying nothing.

Or something.

BTW, did you ever do the thing where whoever the lip of your milk carton was pointing at was the one you loved/liked, so you'd always have to make sure it faced yourself?
