I'm still flirting with the idea of New Zealand, though. I mean, everybody say's they're running off to Canada! New Zealand, now. That's unique.

Evidently NZ isn't that unique right now, at least not according to this SF Gate article:

I certainly share the interest in NZ, though -- after reading Jen Birch's autobiography, plus hearing of the lives of various New Zealanders I've known over the years (like shenya), it certainly is one of the places that tempts me... Only thing that would really deter me is their arachnid/insect population -- I'm not into large poisonous crawly things, thanks. *grin*

You would appear to be confused. Australia is the one with the poisonous creepy crawlies. We have 2 poisonous spiders (harvest, redback), one that's just dirty (whitetail) and no poisonous snakes.
So there :P

Oh, I know Australia is... I thought that more had crossed over to NZ from your complaints a while back, though. *grin* Then again, even just those two spiders are enough to freak me out -- aren't they fairly aggressive types?

Not many have crossed, none of the particularly nasty ones anyway :).

I'm not sure about the agressive part :). The harvest spider (daddy longlegs) is very poisonous but it's fangs are too weak to bite humans anyway *grin*. I've never seen a redback personally. Whitetails are kinda annoying, but you can generally tell if you have them in the house by the lack of other spiders around, they are canabalistic.
