That abnormal psych class... It's DEFINITELY not worth what it's doing to my sanity.

We're talking about - I don't know what. Social anxiety disorders. Something. And Asperger's comes up. And he says something about how "most aspies are of average intelligence - above average intelligence, most of them are geniuses!" and I'm just sitting there going "well, gee, thanks, but that's just not true!"

So I raised my hand.

Now, you need to understand something. Usually, I sit by the wall. I will never willingly sit out in the open. I have to be in the wall, preferably in a corner, in the back - and if I can face the door, so much the better. But today I was late. And the ONLY desks left were right in the front. I could've reached out and pulled his hair.

And he ignored me.

I should've just said something, I normally would've forgotten to even raise my hand - but I was *right there!* How could he possibly not call on me? It's a little blatant, isn't it? And it's not like I'm always calling out in class - in fact, because I know it annoys people, I've taken to playing a lot of freecell (besides, in this class it's really saving my temper).

And he ignored me!

Does he know that you have Asperger's? Maybe he thought he was paying you a compliment?

In any case he shouldn't have ignored you.

Some profs actually are "calling" on you when they look right at you. I never know for sure though and am rather confused and take a good long time before I realize they want me to say whatever it is. :-P

But yeah, there are certain profs and situations where I open my mouth without raising my hand anyway. ::snerk::

Ouch!!

I know the feeling... most of my profs are pretty good, but my computer science teacher seems to have picked me in particular to ignore (perhaps it's because I'm female, and will therefore ask only stupid questions? *sigh*)

Maybe he knew you were more than familiar with the topic and didn't want you making him look like an ass in front of his class?

My japanese history prof. would never ever call on me unless the entire class was stumped. Because he knew that I already had the right answer.

My hearing problems got the better of my social anxiety. If I sit in a class where I prefer (same places as yourself) then I can't hear the instructor. The classrooms have lousy acoustics and people just don't know how to shut up in class. So I compromise by taking one of the first row seats against the wall, preferably farthest from the door and pretend that the rest of the room doesn't exist.

I agree with this. If the professor knows that you have Asperger's then it might indeed be a case in point of him fearing looking inadequate. At any rate, the professor was a jerk to just ignore you, agreed. I am in abnormal psych. as well, and it gets to me BIG time. But, that is because of my son, what I hear the prof's saying about ASDs in general when it comes up, and my own issues. I think that I have autism related issues of my own, but they kept labeling it ADHD growing up. BTW, I added your community (aspergers) as you had mentioned. Can I add you also to my friends list?
