A while back my sister got a really cheap and chintzy laptop for backup

and it's not that good for very much - really basic. Does anybody know a charitable organization which could use a laptop even of a very basic functionality? Or, barring that, a person? They need to be in NYC - nobody's going to mail this, even with the best intentions.

maybe someone at DV shelter? or check with a local school to see if a homeless student might be able to use it?

If it can at least be used to read email and view websites, check with a domestic violence shelter. Someone with nothing might be able to use it to apply for jobs to get back on their feet.

If it's adequate for surfing and making resumes, I'd say a women's shelter.
