to be massively pedantic for no reason.
No sarcasm, it really lightened my mood to have so many of you show up just to inform me that there is no meaningful chance of a killer asteroid anytime in the forseeable future.

And the Brits really need to stop comparing the US to Nazi Germany. They were closer to it with Boris Johnson, and they have a King.

There's a couple of good disaster novels, though, that I've read in the last few years. Seveneves by Neal Stephenson, about the destruction of the moon causing the wiping (mostly) of the Earth's biosphere. And the Lady Astronaut series by Mary Robinette Kowall about a small asteroid smacking into the ocean off the East Coast wiping out DC and lots of other places, ultimately resulting in a new ice age.

Date: 2025-02-26 07:37 pm (UTC)I can't remember what happened to NYC in the Lady Astronaut books, but if it takes out DC then NYC would probably not fare to well. The result was the start of a massive ice age event, forcing the start of the rush to the moon and Mars in the 1950s. Seveneves was an entirely different sort of catastrophe, more of a biome extinction event. But I can completely understand your viewpoint.
