It's ten PM. I do, in fact, know where the kids on this block are, and probably so do their parents. They're outside playing.

It's always been like this on this block, going back to when I was a kid. You can divide the homes neatly by those who are very okay with this and those who don't let their kids play out with the other kids hardly at all.

But that's not why I'm posting. I'm posting because we're approaching NYE. Some years, one house or another full of kids will burst out at midnight-ish and bang pots and pans, and some years they won't. It was us one year when we were kids, of course. We never know which house it'll be, or if it'll happen at all.

So I'm taking bets now! And by "bets" I mean "if you win or lose, you get to buy yourself a participation soda!"

Is this going to be a pots and pans year or not?

I never experienced the pots and pans. We usually get firecrackers, and yes, it's illegal to set them off in our small city. The %&#*@ state legislature forces the towns in AZ to allow the sale of fireworks, because they can be legally used out in the countryside where the fire danger is that much worse. At least they have cracked down hard on the old Mexican tradition of firing guns into the air at midnight, after a girl in her own home in Phoenix got killed by a stray bullet one New Years ten or fifteen years ago.
