I had not seen the whitewashed Harold. That's an offensive choice from the publisher.

Making Harold's clothes bright blue on the 1998 cover also contradicts Johnson's own artistic restraint. Looking through the history, HarperCollins had Harold in a green outfit on the cover of the "Adventures of" compilation, and Harold looks kinda pale there too.

I assume the pjs are not newly made blue inside the book. The original cover is beautiful design work and adding extra color to it is a Not Getting It move by editors and jacket designers.
