I suppose there doesn't really have to be a reason for the Trump rally shooting

other than dumbfucks with guns, and there sure are a lot of them among the American right wing, aren't there? They're really more of a danger to themselves than anybody else most of the time.

Of course, if the shooter ends up dead then we can't find out their motives, if any.

At least the practice of having Secret Service protection for ex-Presidents and Presidential candidates means that there will be an actual investigation.

The whole thing seems strange. Why was Trump having his first rally in a while at Butler, PA. a city with less than 15,000 people? At least the shooter who wore a far-right group's T-shirt has been IDed as registered to vote as a Republican, so maybe we won't hear how it was left-wing plot for the rest of our lives. It was the beginning of Trump's speech, why was he turned far to the right (generally towards the shooter) on the stage? Did the shooter or someone else yell something at him?

I too wish the man would just drop dead, but if he does before the convention, the Repubs would replace him with someone younger and more personable, which would look good to the voters who think Biden is past it. Meaning another Republican administration curtailing rights.

The one advantage of Trump is that so many people hate him so much they'll vote for anything else.

The shooter did end up dead, so unless more information comes up, we won't know.

But at least the candidate can finally be wrong about the idea of "the people with guns aren't here to use them on me."
