People like to help! Tell them how happy you are for their help, and what nice neighbours they are and that will feel better than fudge (well. As good? Fudge is after all FUDGE).

Oh, I know people like to help, though I admit my real reason for always saying yes if people offer is a little bit spiteful. I've noticed that occasionally people offer to help and then are startled when you say yes and sorta try to back out, and frankly, I just hate the idea of those people getting the moral credit for asking if they never intended to follow through.

Oh good. And yes, it is right to accept in most cases (I guess it depends on the help?). This was definitely a case in which it was okay to say yes. That was kind of them and very neighborly.

Also they probably wanted it out of your yard almost as badly as you did. ;-)

Oh, I know they wanted it out as badly as I did! What they first asked is if I'd mind if they hauled away the old fridge that had been in the yard but which I'd shoved into the (shared) alley in preparation to put it on the curb this afternoon, and I asked if they knew anybody who'd take the tub as well!

Clearly, a win-win from both points of view. You can't get rid of it and want it gone, they can get rid of it and want it gone - solution? Help you by hauling it away. Win-win.
