Learn about the lj-cut. It's in the FAQ. It's your friend. One, small quiz is about as much as should be visible on your main page at any one time. Long surveys, big pictures, more than one quiz? HIDE THEM IN A FRIGGIN' CUT.
Really, it's bad enough when people don't cut pictures that only they have. I guarantee, any quiz you post, you're not the first. Nobody wants to see the same quiz 20 times on their friends page.
No, I'm not going to force you to change. I won't even keep ranting about it. But I periodically feel the need to ask people to start cutting their stuff.

Date: 2004-09-25 12:32 pm (UTC)Respectfully, you didn't ask anyone to use a cut on this post. You told them to, you know?
I've seen a few people complain about this every once in a while and I don't get what the big deal is.
First of all, the cut is not aesthetically pleasing at all and maybe they don't wanna use it on their journal because they think it looks ugly. (I think it looks ugly, it really messes with my sense of visual balance, but I use it.) Then there's that whole "it's their journal" thing. Also, isn't there a way to totally manipulate your friends page to either not show picture or show pictures only within certain parameters? I may be wrong, I don't use it, but I thought you could do that on your friends page.
I admit that I sometimes gets annoyed by very large pictures, but again, I feel it's their journal and they can do what they want with it, so I either use adblock on it (through Firefox) or I deal.
Not trying to come off bitchy and sorry if I do, I'm just curious about why this a big deal because I've seen people complain about it before.

Date: 2004-09-25 12:59 pm (UTC)First I ranted. Then I said I was asking. This made the whole thing a request.

You can set your journal so that you don't see cuts at all. It's at the lj-cut FAQ.

You'd think so, but it doesn't work. And there are some images that I *want* to see.

Yeah, I know. And this is my journal, and I like to rant. Gets the anger out.

Pictures are distracting. Also, when you only have so much time to read your friends page, it's nice when people hide the unimportant stuff like quizzes that you've already seen before. This way you don't have to waste your time scrolling past tons and tons of images that you don't have time for.
In addition, some people still have small monitors which simply cannot handle large pictures, or slow computers/internet connections which cannot handle large quantities of images, or large images. It isn't very kind to your friends to ask them to wait several minutes for their friends page to load because you wanted to post a quiz and not cut it.
I'm not going to complain to people not to post their personal pictures, unless they're posting really huge ones, or not worksafe ones. But I hate seeing the same quiz 5000 times on my friends page. And I have a *lot* of people on that list!

Date: 2004-09-25 01:06 pm (UTC)I was just confused about why it was a big deal to some people and what you said makes sense.
Sorry you had to put the baby to bed at 3. I know ALL about the sleep deprivation. No fun.

Date: 2004-09-25 01:20 pm (UTC)That's really interesting about the nose-blowing. I do it in public here anyway, hate sucking it back into my head, but I know it's rude to, so I usually go in the bathroom or something. I didn't know it was okay in Europe.

Date: 2004-09-25 01:29 pm (UTC)It's just really obnoxious to see long posts up on your friends page (I always scroll if they're not behind a cut), and pictures make it load at an agonizing pace. I'm not so beefed about pictures (you can use image placeholders, in case something nasty comes up) but those long wanky posts? Uncool.

Now, what were we talking about? Forgive? Forgive what? I don't even know.
Seriously, my memory for these things is tiny.
