conulywhich is the second sequel to New Kid. This is not a review of the book - if you liked the first one, you'll most likely like the next two as well.
No, this is a commentary on the fact that the last page of this book was a long, very cheesy set-up for the protagonist to list the titles of as many Raina Telgemeier books as he could plausibly fit into a sentence, with every title bolded just in case you didn't get the joke. This is helped along by the fact that they tend to be one-word titles. Of course, anybody publishing middle grade or YA graphic novels today owes a huge thank you to her, but still. It was cheesy. I'm on the fence as to whether or not it's the sort of cheesy that I like or the sort that I don't like, but let's not deny the facts here.
In other children's media commentaries, the writers and animators of The Dragon Prince are entirely too fond of Bait. I get it, he's a cute animal - but they either need to stop focusing on him so much in dramatic moments or start focusing on him enough to develop him as a character. And with the amount of time people in this series spend running back (not to mention risking their lives) to grab their little toad every time they leave him behind, can somebody just make him a sling already? He's a small animal, and highly portable! They can secure him during chases! Or, just before chases, I mean. In situations where chases are highly likely to happen, which is all situations.
