conulyAnd that first season is totally unnecessary. I mean, I'm not a lawyer, but they're not real people. They're TV characters, and I think I know enough of TV law to say that any decent lawyer could make sure they never went to prison for murder - if it even went to trial.
I can think of a few ways to shape the truth a little, but even if they just went in there blind and strictly honest, let's look at the facts:
he's absolutely a murderer
he absolutely tried to kill Rebecca in front of multiple witnesses
his death still was an accident
Now, I probably would've said that Rebecca went there to confront him rather than to hack his laptop, and I would've at least implied that the gang was there for legitimate work/study purposes rather than shenanigans, but still - it's not the accidental death due to self-defense that's gonna get them, it's their amateur-hour attempts at a cover-up.
If they'd all just agreed on a version of the truth that kept everybody's noses clean (except Sam, because he's a murderer) and then stuck to that story, they'd've been in the clear.
