There was a scary moment where I thought I'd broken it forever, but it turned out that you have to press down a little harder to secure the ram into the slots.

I definitely can't upgrade this graphics card unless there's something I'm not understanding (I took a gamble on the one card people said might physically fit in there, and nope) but it's okay. It's almost as much fun to read about mods I might install on games as to actually have the game on my computer and mod the heck out of it. And eventually I'll upgrade to a new computer anyway, sometime in the future.

I have a whole backlog of links both in open tabs (don't ask how many) and in my email (really don't ask how many) so I'll be posting those in a few big batches. I don't like overwhelming people and their friends pages, but it's gotta be done.

WHY have they not figured out a less terrifying slot system for motherboards and ram/graphics cards? It is ALWAYS like "really, REALLY? you need me to push THAT hard to snap it in place?

Hooray for upgraded memory.

Graphics cards are ridiculous now - not only do you have to worry about physical space for them - but you also have to check how much power they require - sometimes a new GPU requires a whole new power supply!

I do this stuff for a living and I still get tripped up. There's a whole lot of "obvious" stuff that isn't actually obvious.

You can count fans on a card as a rough metric. To me, it sounds like your system can handle a one fan card (relatively short) and likely half-height.

You can also use the cost of your computer as a metric. Cheaper computer? Buy the cheaper offerings.

Sometimes the RAM goes in easy with a that nice *click click* sound. Other times they're really stiff and you have to really push. I've done it lots of times and it's still a little scary.

And graphics cards? I feel your pain. After upgrading the power supply I bought a card that *lots* of people have put in this particular case... except they didn't mention that it would make the SATA connectors impossible to get at.

Sounds like you need something like an RX6400 - single slot, half height, single fan, no extra power connectors needed.

Good luck!

Yeah, memory sockets can be kinda tough. Congrats on the upgrade!

Congratulations on the RAM upgrade working successfully for you!

Graphics cards have come a very long way since their inception and they often have greater power requirements than everything else in the system. Which is a bit scary to think about.
