Pleasant enough...ending wraps up a bit too quickly. For the age level using the term "boobies" instead of "titties" might have been a better choice but maybe it is an Ohio thing?!
I mean... can we all just agree that it's a fairly informal way to refer to the Virgin Mary's breasts? Or anybody's, really. Is one word choice really different from another at that point?
(I haven't read the book and don't have any other context, other than that from the other reviews complaining about non-standard English in dialogue it looks like this is just how the protagonist's family speaks rather than that she's being deliberately irreverent or disrespectful.)

Date: 2023-01-06 02:58 pm (UTC)Yeah, maybe it is a regional thing, but I would say 'titties' sounds way more grown-up than 'boobies'. (...Ï probably would not use either one for the Mother of God unless I was being deliberately disrespectful, though.) But it depends on the age level - it would feel wrong in a picture book, in an older chapter book for say 11/13 I wouldn't blink at "titties", it's the sort of medium word you use when you're starting to experiment with grown-up words, or that adults start using around you because you're more grown-up.
