Our dentist kindly scheduled a last minute appointment for us today, yes, right before the holiday (even though traffic is, as he said, horrific) but then his mother died.

I think we'll send him a card.

That's sad. But at least the dentist let you know the cancellation and the reason, yes? The last person to cancel an appointment on me for a personal tragedy didn't let me know he was cancelling my appointment. He did let his employer know why he wasn't showing up, as I found out when I phoned them, but they hadn't let me know either.
