Judging from the many cat pictures, I have high hopes that the researcher is not the sort of cat-hating asshole whom we usually seem to see heading studies about cats in the home. With any luck, there will be no "Wow, we were shocked to find that cats like the humans they live with!" from him.

I believe the current theory is that cats domesticated themselves - greater friendliness towards humans in exchange for all the mice and rats they could eat.

Though I've often wondered who was the brave one at first - was it a human who pet a cat, or a cat who ran up and sat on a human?

One thing odd about my feral kitten is that he imprinted on my shaggy dog, rather than me. I think the dog "looked" more familiar that a human.

Some cats really are born, as you say, feral. Or semi-feral, I think. All kittens are scared of humans when they're small, but these guys are MORE scared of humans.

Those are always my favorite kittens, tbh. I've got one right now, she's 12 this school year, and over her life she's bonded with exactly two humans - me and my mom. And it was a long, slow process for her to decide Mommy was a friend too!

But it makes perfect sense to me that one of them might decide that a dog is a safer bet than a human. Those kitties are just like that, and what can you do?
