To be fair, I think I'd accidentally stood a little too long near a nest. So it was well-deserved, if unexpected. The bird ACTUALLY bonked into my head! I hope it's all right, I didn't intend to cause any distress.

The turkey poults around my block are pretty big, but the ones down by Midland Beach are eensy, small enough that you hardly see them because they hide under bushes and you could pick them up two or three in the palm of your hand. If you *could* pick them up, I mean, which I bet you can't because Mom wouldn't like it. I don't think I'd like to get divebombed by a turkey. The mockingbird was bad enough!

Don't make enemies with turkeys because they never forget, even if it would be better if they did. I shooed a docile wild Tom away from a smoldering pile of leaves that was just about to burst into flames, once. He decided from then on he needed to show me who was boss, at least from a safe distance. He'd chase my car down the road day after day, till my neighbor found someone to move the whole flock (Tom plus about 5 hens) to a wooded park where they wouldn't get run over or shot at!

My grandfather had a big tom turkey who decided all the grandchildren were his enemy after one of the boys picked at him. It was a test of bravery to go pick up Granddad's mail for him because we'd have to run as fast as possible down his long driveway to the mailbox, pursued there and back by a huge angry turkey. The turkey was savvy enough not to go out into the road, so we were safe while actually getting the mail out of the box. They are smarter than people realize!
