Apparently the city's doing NYE at Times Square this year

It's not very cold this year at all, but it still does not change my opinion that going to Times Square to stand around and shiver with a bunch of strangers for hours and hours on end, in a place that really has insufficient toilets, is just a bad idea. It did not magically become a good idea with the addition of exciting new covid varieties.

But what about the part where you find a TV crew, and try to get in the background and wave maniacally?

I saw some of the coverage last night, and got tired of those fools in a hurry. And then I thought of what I'd look like if I was standing in the area. The whole country would be like, "look at that guy, he's just standing there, looking like a fool!"

Having done it in my late 20s/early 30s, yes, it's a bad idea. We never lasted long - we ended up in a bar further up and watched it on the bar television sets instead. Although back then, it was freezing, clear, and no pandemic.

Last night - I ignored the whole thing. Although stupid neighbors were playing loud music, etc.

They had limited it to 15,000 at least. But still, pandemic, hello?

Even with a masking requirement (and who's really enforcing that!?) it's absurd.

I grew up on Long Island and have never wanted to spend New Year's Eve in Times Square. It just sounds so not fun!

I had the chance one year to watch from inside a skyscraper near Times Square, but decided to go to a party instead. Probably was the wrong decision... (Joy changed jobs after that, so the skyscraper's no longer an option for me...)

Inside a skyscraper doesn't sound bad. For me, outside surrounded by all those people has a strong "why would you do that?" feel.

Yeah. Joy and I live in NYC and haven't been tempted to go outside in person -- even before Covid. Inside was nice, though (Joy did it before we met...)
