The fact that her father is now backing out of the conservatorship as fast as his little legs can carry him is really telling, and I'm not sure if I want them to nail him to the goddamn wall or just let him go and forget about him entirely.

I hear you about steep blocks. from 4th thru 9th grade I had 3 or 4 very steep blocks to climb on the way to school. Years later, checking topo maps, I discovered that it was a 300 foot climb!

We didn't flood, but that's because we were at the top of a 500 foot slope down to the river. (Yes, that mean that the school was 800 feet above the river).

But not too long after we moved into that house, there was one heck of a rainstorm. And it created a new gully 3-4 feet deep down the hillside. I figure the depth based on the fact that I couldn't see out of it for most of its length!

That side of Spokane is sort of like a *huge* layer cake. Basically built on sandbars from when that huge glacial lake in Montana broke thru the ice sheet at the end of the last Ice Age. Those were the floods that created the scablands in Washington and Oregon.

I propose a compromise solution. Nail him to the wall, and then forget about him entirely while he's still nailed to the wall.

This.

indeed

I have the impression that if the conservatorship is dissolved immediately, it will be much harder to get him consequences for his previous actions as conservator than it will be if the conservatorship stays intact with a different conservator

There's an old farm country punishment for rapists that comes to mind. It involves a pair of fence staples, an old outbuilding you don't need anymore and a dull rusty knife. Oh yeah, and something to set the building on fire with...

Since the "I helped destroy people" article is behind a paywall I looked up Terry Albury, and it led me to this article of documents he leaked. It's a read, alright.

Cool. I've been yelling about piezoelectric sidewalks for at least twelve years. Nice to see it finally implemented.

Different technology — I wondered if it was piezo because I hadn't heard of any developments that would mean it was efficient enough to do that, and it looks like it's something else that's actually really cool. :D

The flooring could be used with something similar to motion sensor lights.

Have strips of LEDs up near the ceiling powered by the flooring under them. So as you walk, you've got light from above to illuminate your path.

I thought about having the LEDs along the baseboard, but that'd mess up your night vision more and make it more likely that you might trip over things.

We live at the top of a pretty tall bluff, and every winter when the river floods and the low-lying fields around the bluff we live on fill with water, I say something similar — I don't love where we live right now, but at least there's that!
