I used to think they were called vanilla envelopes

But apparently they're manila envelopes because they're made with manila paper which is made with banana hemp. From bananas!

That's so much better than vanilla! (Except nowadays they're mostly not anymore.)

Aww, that's so cool about manila folders! I didn't know it, and I feel ~ enriched ~ now.

When I was a kid I thought manila envelops were made in Manila, Philipines!

Used to be! But when I was a kid I had never heard of Manila, so that didn't spring to mind. And once I did I still wasn't clear why they were "Manila" envelopes even if they were made elsewhere.

I had heard of it because I read a lot of what is called "men's adventure" books which were American anti-terrorist/hoorah squads going around the world killing bad guys for The American Way. Which taught me a lot of things I didn't need to know at age 9, but at least it also taught me some world geography.
