I've also been watching Teen Titans
Mar. 20th, 2021 02:29 amEva sometimes watches with me, sometimes not. Still on the first season, which I've seen a bit of and Eva has seen too often to count (and she is NOT interested in watching the whole thing one more time!) and just went through the two-parter where Robin "agrees" to be Slade's apprentice and then proceeds to continually attack him without any planning or preparation, over and over again.
Or, as Eva and I put it, those episodes where we really delve too deep into Robin's daddy issues. Slade: "You're like me, Robin!" Robin, later: "He's right, we're a lot alike". Me: Yeah, you both seem to like your rooms to resemble featureless black voids. What the hell is up with that, and have you considered literally any other form of lighting than the occasional stark spotlight? I know Raven thinks her room is moody, but, wow, Robin, this decor is bleak.
Early in the episode, Slade gets the plot running by calling the Titans at 5am. Beast Boy gets elbowed for pointing it out, but he's right - there's no justification for this. The villain is calling you in your not-so-secret hideout, you know he's not going to do shit until you listen to his spiel, so put him on hold and go back to bed. (Or, better yet, use your caller ID and don't answer for unknown numbers. He's obviously trying to get under Robin's skin, but he'd have to work a lot harder to manipulate him if you never picked up the phone to begin with.)
