We’re Just Rediscovering a 19th-Century Pandemic Strategy (I haven't been able to track it down again, but just a few years ago I remember reading an article talking about how the decline of the fresh air movement was a great boon for hospitals, because it meant that patients could have private rooms and hot food again, since the buildings didn't need to be designed for maximum airflow.)

I saw a man in the grocery store one day recently with his hand up finger-spelling in ASL. I looked past him, wondering who he was spelling to, and saw no one. Looked again, and he was holding up his phone, spelling to the screen. I discreetly pointed this out to my husband, who said, "Video on phones must be the best thing ever for the deaf."
