I never do it the same way. Sometimes I'm down spoons and I tell myself to just do one and it'll be enough, sometimes I just floss the upper jaw or lower jaw and call it enough. But I have a super fancy sonicare to brush my teeth which helps counter my inability to clean my teeth regularly and my dental hygenist seems to think my teeth and gums are in great shape. (Fun fact, at age 50 I learned there is a correct way to floss! It makes a huge difference!)

What is this correct way to floss? What are the incorrect ways?

Not sure this is the same correct way but I was told to make sure you follow each tooth down. AKA floss pulling towards the front and then towards the back of your mouth.

If I'm going to floss at all, floss then brush. I've found that daily flossing for a week or so before a cleaning is enough to reduce any gum bleeding to a minimum if they 'chart' (check how the gums are doing by poking at them (mesial, distal, lingual, ow).

There's videos online (youtube) that will show, but basically it's rubbing the floss up and down along the front and back of each tooth, rather than moving the floss from side to side between the teeth.

My hygienist explained it as "floss is brushing the teeth also, brushing inbetween, so you want a brushing motion."

Brush first, unless I'm not sure I have the energy, focus, or hands for both, in which case I might floss first.

I finally bought dental floss after some toddler turned the previous roll into a tangled mess!

No worries, I know the world right now makes errands particularly hard to actually do.

I am not as consistent with floss as ideal, but when I do it's brush, floss, brush.

When I get my teeth cleaned, after the scaling, they polish, then floss, so I follow that order at home (brush, then floss). When I bother to floss, that is. I'm very good at doing it immediately following cleanings, but then my enthusiasm wanes considerably.

This had been discussed on the radio a year or two ago, and the DJs were mixed in how they did it. I talked about it at dinner with my family, and we were split. So I asked my hygienist the next time I went, and she said floss, then brush. But I’ve always brushed then flossed and can’t make myself change.

Flossing loosens the foodbits; brushing sweeps them away.

I brush and floss at separate times. My floss pick is at my desk, because I trained myself to floss as a stim behavior.

Floss, waterpik, brush, mouthwash, ideally; mostly it's floss, brush, mouthwash. My teeth are tight together so cleaning in between is difficult.

I asked my dental hygienist which should be done first, and she got this haggard expression and said there is no one right way, and honestly, they'd be thrilled if people flossed at all.
