When I optimistically made this optometrist appointment for the whole family on the first available date, I forgot to double check the calendar and schedule around the Jewish holidays.

If I'd remembered, I probably would have made this appointment for a later date. I think I'm going to have to reschedule, because of course people would get lax about congregating for community worship on some of the most important holidays of the year after our covid numbers had dropped so low.

If I don't like these numbers now, I don't think I'll like them any better in two weeks. Damn, damn, damn. After the Jewish holidays comes Halloween, then Thanksgiving, and then you're in the Christmas rush - ugh. If we don't go now, none of us is getting our eyes checked until at least the end of January, I can see it now.

Well, I'm going to not look at all for the next seven days and then decide.

My eye doctor's office is being pretty careful about infection control and masks, except at the entrance/exit door, but they are using their waiting room, mostly as a place for people to sit after having our eyes dilated.

They sent me email, and a text message, explaining what precautions they specifically are taking, and requiring from patients, because of Covid. That gave me more information with which to decide whether I felt safe enough to keep the appointment, combining that with how important it is for me specifically to have my eyes checked every year.

They're being very careful at my doctor's office. But if my old glasses weren't falling apart, I wouldn't have gone in. And I didn't need an exam--I'd been seen in February. It's a hard choice.

My last eye checkup was delayed about six months, but I finally got it done--and found out my vision had actually improved, just a bit. No one can account for it.

But we're entering THAT time of the year, for better or for worse. This year for the worst, I think.

Too me, the end-of-year holidays always feel like a slingshot, gathering speed as they fling us into the next year.

This was more exciting back when I had a younger person's energy. And more optimism.

I don't know if all your vision-related puns were intentional ("I can see it now", "not look at all"), but I enjoyed them!
