Just read A Deadly Education.
Sep. 29th, 2020 09:17 pmDammit, it should be a crime to leave readers on that sort of cliffhanger!
Also, though the narration is appropriately snarky and fun, the actual setting is relentlessly grimdark - even if you survive the school (which is carefully engineered to give the overprivileged rich kids the best chance at the expense of the rest, who can't complain because their chances on the outside are even worse), life on the outside still isn't great for most of the graduates, certainly not if they plan for their kids to have an even chance in another few decades. If you're not in the mood for that, pick up some other book.

Date: 2020-09-30 02:42 am (UTC)It sounds like a recipe for generation upon generation of PTSD, amplifying with each round, and this is the better alternative to near-certain death for anybody not in a powerful enclave and a coin toss for those within one.
