is an admission that this entire year has been a long prank and actually none of it ever happened.

Have you ever seen The Happening? It’s a film about trees influencing humans to kill themselves because they, rightly, view them as a threat to nature. I feel like the past four years have been like that but it’s all of nature teaming up to make us clearly see the error of our ways and this damn virus going around is nature’s way of trying to kill us off to help protect itself. Let’s hope rl has a similar ending to the film.

I was thinking today how living things regularly get reprogrammed via viruses/other pathogens to destroy themselves/each other so it's not an uncommon thing (banana plague or whatever is up with them right now comes to mind). That it's not unusual nor even humanity's first go-around at this (see: Black Plague, Spanish flu) doesn't make it any easier to process.

Exactly, all of this! (The banana thing is really weird to me, I hope we figure out to resolve that issue.)

It probably can't be solved without CRISPR (GMO-like gene editing) and possibly not even then (there are other banana varieties that haven't been blighted but if I recall correctly they're not as sweet and/or are harder to grow for mass distribution and/or they're much smaller). Also, this is the second type of banana to die from some sort of blight in recent times - Gros Michel was the first to go so we switched to Cavendish, and now it's them.

I am looking forward to the day where the collective hallucination is revealed and we all stretch and wake up. And then go to town on the aliens that thought trapping us in this kind of simulation would make us easy to conquer.

Aliens, my foot. It's the human race, hundreds to thousands of years from now - and if so it's a game - we mean nothing to them (also, alien or human we *were* easy to conquer, which doesn't exactly give any of us a leg up).
