conulyI want to recommend a fic for somebody who just now started reading the Harry Potter books for the first time, but I don't remember the title.
The plot starts when a young Harry one day demands to know if it is, in fact, normal for him to sleep in a closet, and when his aunt and uncle only stammer at him declares that if they can't answer, he'll ask his teachers, because he wants to know. This works so amazingly well that he relies on this line quite a bit, and, iirc, he ultimately doesn't end up at Hogwarts. The wizarding world has to muddle through without him.
