Because that stuff is only visible in IE, and a lot of people would have white font surrounded by glowing stuff.

This led to a number of gems, and whining. Obviously, disabling something that only works in one browser is unfair to everybody, because "most" people use IE (most people I know don't, but they're too smart for the neoboards anyway... even if you know nothing of neopets, know this).

And, EoS, post your gem. Post it, post it! The one about how IE can be downloaded for free, and since kids are so tech savvy, they should be able to download it, so there's no reason for them to use anything that doesn't work (by working, she clearly means "show ugly fonts", because shadowed and glowing fonts ARE ugly).

For what it's worth, glowing text doesn't work on IE/Mac either...

Yep... which makes that one poster's comment seem even funnier. Sure, IE can be downloaded for free-- but Windows can't (well, not legally, anyway)...

Now that I've seen it, I'm impressed you could make heads or tails of what she was saying! I just got "blah blah blah Explorer blah blah kids blah high-tech blah blah Mozilla blah blah". :-)

Hey, that sounds cool. I do use IE and I actually used the glow feature in my signature, but I'll have no troubles living without it. I'm just looking forward to posts everywhere on Neopets becoming more readable.

Ha. Some of the neokiddies bitch about everything.

I only use IE because I'm too lazy to log in and out of neopets in firefox to zap on my spare account.

Well, if I must...

"Some people took lots of time dedicated to making font websites. its not fair to them. you can download most broswers like IE for free and kids are hi-tech and this is a kids site so if u dont got the rite stuff to see it hat ur prob."

"but alot of ppl could see and to get mozilla you had to change nad download so for those users it was there fault that they didnt check weather they could see, other than that there wasnt any problems before until that dumb program err i mean new expolrer came out.."

Such beauty... such ignorance...

It's a shame I make a point of not replying on boards like that or I'd have had a heck of a lot to say ;0)

...Wow. That's so full of misspellings and so lacking in appropriate punctuation that I can't even decipher it at the moment (of course, it doesn't help that I'm still only half-awake)...

"Some people have put a lot of time into making websites just for fonts, it isn't fair to them. You can download most browsers like IE for free - kids are pretty high tech so they could work out how to do this. This is a kids' site so if you don't have the right programs then that's your problem."

I just can't get the last sentence to make sense.

"But a lot of people could see. To get Mozilla you had to actually make the choice to change and download it, so it was those users' fault for not checking in advance whether or not they'd be able to see the effects. Other than that there weren't any problems before that dumb program, err, I mean new explorer came out"

That help?

The Mozilla project actually predates Neopets itself, and of course Netscape came before IE (as IE was its downfall.)

Ah, yes. That clarifies things a LOT. I was especially stuck on the "hat ur prob" part, among other things... apparently an already indecipherable style of writing was made even more indecipherable by unnoticed and uncorrected typos.

And that was hard to read with English as my first language! I can only imagine how bad it must be for those who speak English as a second language... >_

I post on a message board that allows HTML in posts after a certain amount of time, and there are a few on there that use the glowing and shadowing. The shadowing I don't mind much if it's used sparingly, but the glow is annoying. If it's a long post, it slows the page down.

Especially since IE doesn't have any security problems. No, none at all.
