Date: 2019-09-18 10:45 pm (UTC)“OIL - Modern War God Threatens the World” [February, 1936]
“Black gold, precious underground liquid, is food for the modern war machine. Deprived of it, a nation’s military campaign is threatened with failure. Will oil become an instrument to enforce peace or to cause war?”
- See also, “The Pentagon as a Global Oil-Protection Service”
The wars of the future may be fought just to run the machines that fight them.
“Sixteen gallons of oil. That's how much the average American soldier in Iraq and Afghanistan consumes on a daily basis -- either directly, through the use of Humvees, tanks, trucks, and helicopters, or indirectly, by calling in air strikes. Multiply this figure by 162,000 soldiers in Iraq, 24,000 in Afghanistan, and 30,000 in the surrounding region (including sailors aboard U.S. warships in the Persian Gulf) and you arrive at approximately 3.5 million gallons of oil: the daily petroleum tab for U.S. combat operations in the Middle East war zone.
“Multiply that daily tab by 365 and you get 1.3 billion gallons: the estimated annual oil expenditure for U.S. combat operations in Southwest Asia. That's greater than the total annual oil usage of Bangladesh, population 150 million - and yet it's a gross underestimate of the Pentagon's wartime consumption…”

“Look, in the real world the USA is defending itself against aggressive, much stronger foes who envy your nation's rampant inequality, its racist police, its expensive and ineffective health care, its political corruption... There are armies approaching your borders from Afghanistan, Iran, all the countries in Africa and pretty much everyone who isn't European or Japanese. So climate disaster is the price the world must pay to Keep America Safe.”

Kellogg and LeAnn Rimes invite you to come to the aid of those wounded on the battlefields of freedom by supporting and contributing to the Coalition to Support America's Heroes.
“My heart belongs to the heroic servicemen who have been injured in the fight for our country. Please help me support them in their return home.” - LeAnn Rimes
The fight for our country?! What, Iraq invaded us? Do we face
Afghanistani Anschluß? Like coinage, words can be debased to worthlessness. I once fired back at some twit who used the rubberstamp phrase, that our troops were “fighting-for-our-freedom.”
“Freedom from what?” I asked. “From the IRS? From the TSA, the DHS, the FBI? Freedom to do what? To smoke weed, to enjoy ‘life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness’? Words mean something or they mean nothing. What ‘freedom’ are they dying for?”
This got me the fish-face. Political slogans are never meant to be examined.
