Date: 2004-08-15 07:52 pm (UTC)My "alcohol and other drugs" class was taught by someone who was an inspector for a local brewery. Someone there had PTSD because they had gone on their lunch break, sat in the bottom of an elevator shaft while their friend/coworker was working on some repairs, and ate his lunch. The jack-thingy or brakes or whatever was holding the elevator up stopped working, and the elevator fell, mashing his standing friend, but he wasn't hit (he felt the air through his hair though) because he was sitting in the little area below ground level whereas his friend had been standing a little higher up. Yeah, elevators falling is pretty common, but that guy probably felt super lucky that he was sitting rather than standing there working. Scary though.
