which in retrospect is just as well.
After replacing the u-bend plunging still wasn't getting anywhere, and I was perplexed that I heard a hissing noise every time I pressed down. Was there still some leak somewhere?
Not exactly. After the shitty contractor took out the old toilet that used to be by the washing machine he failed to cap that pipe leading to the outlet, instead just shoving a sponge in there. Which I guess has worked more or less fine until now, but still. Still. According to google this is a fairly cheap and easy fix, which makes this all the more absurd. When I have a chance, I'll deal with that.
