I'm happy about the low unemployment in Iowa in general and Ames in particular. It means wages have finally been going up. I haven't seen a Now Hiring sign offering less than ten dollars an hour in over a year, which is much better than the official minimum wage of $7.25. Now we just need to raise the state minimum to ten dollars to keep wages from dropping during the next economic downswing.

For the most part, yes, although it really depends on what part of Iowa you're looking at. The urban-rural divide is as real here as anywhere else. Apartment listings in Des Moines list $1,000 per month apartments as being affordable, while you can find apartments in the northeastern corner of the state for $600 or less without much difficulty.

How many bedrooms/bathrooms?

That's typically a two bedroom/one bath within the city, or at least it was last year when I was apartment hunting. It looks like there are actually more options in the $700 to $800 range now than there used to be, probably due to the new apartment complexes that were built recently.

We are going through a very hot spell it touches 108 F (42 C) we had an extremely brutal summer (multiple showers help us keep our sanity at home), hopefully we should have rains in a week or two fingers crossed. 90 F is also very warm. Anyone who says Climate change is a conspiracy should be punched.
