My mother went to have her bone density tested at Sloane today

1. Man, the acoustics in the bathrooms in the secondary waiting room are amazing. First I peed, and then I sang to myself for a minute. (It was a short song.)

2. Bought a man a burger and fries at Wendy's at the boat, but then he wouldn't stop trying to get my attention and thank me again, and it was super awkward. One thank you is enough! Don't make this weird!

3. After the appointment we headed down to Burlington to get clothes (and I made a stop at Trader Joe's to get fruit and salsa, but they didn't have the oranges I like, boo) and it occurred to me, looking around, that there really ought to be more visibly disabled people in crowd scenes. Realism, folks!

4. More somberly, one of my neighbors is going through a real rough patch, and without thinking about it I kind of assumed somebody was helping out and it seems that's not the case, so we're going to go over next week and sit with her dying mother so she can go out and take care of her own looming medical issues. (It's a twofer. I really thought she was getting more help than this already! We've really let the ball drop there, this whole neighborhood.)

I'm imagining flash barbershop quartets who will show up at locations they've been informed are acoustically excellent, sing a song, and leave.

In public bathrooms, they sing from inside the stalls.

With that said, the bathrooms at MSK are all single-stall and fairly spacious, even when you account for the fact that they are, perforce, accessible. Their buildings are all really nice.

Disabled people in crowd scenes? Horrors!

I've often thought you could shoot an *entire* movie with nothing but straight males and half the people wouldn't blink. "Action" movies tend to be like that anyways.

We can even eliminate the 'going home to the loved ones' part at the end by substituting dogs and cats for women. You know it would work.

TBH, I’d love a “the hero returns to his cat(s)” scene at the end of an action movie. And not a “ha-ha, the cat just ignores him” way—I’ve definitely been met at the door by cats who wished to smell where I’d been and rub against me until I smelled like home again.

How I see it is a 'buddy movie' - at the point where they bond (how gay is that?) and share picture of the 'ones waiting at home'. The viewer doesn't see the pictures - only the expressions of the actors. This will include some surprise as one of the pair show surprise and comments along the lines of, "It's okay, but I didn't think you were that type."

The punch line hits at the end where one character goes home to his raucous dogs welcoming him home, while the other sits alone for a moment before a cat comes out of nowhere, jumps in his lap and loves on him.

It would work, you know it would. No women required.

I get that about the whole "please don't make this weird" thing. It's nice to be thanked for doing something nice but it can be nerve-wracking to have a quiet moment of charity turned into something that requires tons of attention.

YES THAT.

One thank you was enough. Two would be fine. I can even see three - once when I said I'd get it, once when I gave him his separate receipt (I had no desire to stand there separating his food out from mine, so I placed two orders), and once when he got his food. That'd be two thank yous too many, but still.

But it was just unending.

Is it normal in your area that this is a neighborhood responsibility?

Here in Australia [unless you're in a small town] it would be friends/family/paid carers. Neighbors wouldn't enter into it.

I really appreciate good acoustics, for the same reason you do. Stairwells, the bathroom at work. I try not to sing very loudly, but I do sing. Juuuust can't help myself.

It's SO nice you're helping out your neighbor. She must feel as if she's in a real logistical bind right now, in addition to the sadness of what's going on.
