Unlike his awake-time barking, his sleep-time barking is muffled and adorable.

Also, yesterday the guy on the corner with the yorkies said that he loves seeing Finn because he has "such a happy walk" and you don't know how happy that made me to hear. (Today Moonpie was the one bouncing around cheerfully while Finn tried to eat grass. I just don't know sometimes.)

In cat news, Callie has suddenly remembered she loves me and also she loves being clean. We're getting plenty of quality snuggles in. Mama Cat has similarly turned affectionate, but it's hard to snuggle her because she gets overstimulated real fast, and then you regret it. Also, she lies on top of your book while you're reading.

Pip's the same way. You have to basically not touch him or he practically spins in circles and leaves. But if you give him no more than a small scritch or two, then just ignore him, he curls right up. (Bowie's the opposite. He can hardly fall asleep for how much attention he wants.)

Yes, Must Avoid Claws. Pip doesn't scratch, but when he gets really excited he bites (very, very gently; Bo does, too).

ISTR reading about sleep deprivation and depression, given that for years that's how I self medicated. So glad to read it again.

Also, glad to hear that I'm not the only person concerned about Amazon's entry into the grocery business. Now, will I get to Champaign to check out the grocery store in that article? Not any time soon, alas.

The article seems really, really, weak. (Though I'm delighted it worked for you!)

Staying awake for 40 hours reduced depression symptoms. Great!
As I read farther into the article, I noticed they reported there was no lasting effect. You have to do it every 2 days.
I also noticed that the "less depression" looks suspiciously like hypomania.

Sleep deprivation impairs reflexes and cognition. When severe, it causes hallucinations and paranoia. When chronic, it causes high blood pressure. I noticed they didn't say anything about whether starting from a baseline of severe depression had any protective effect. If you're comparing it to anti-depressants, you need to compare side effects, and recognize that some of the side effects can be dangerous.

Awwww!

My cat has calmed down with age. I've learned how long he can be petted without driving him bonkers, and he's a lot more snuggley day and night. He never got in my lap by himself till the last year or so. A few days ago he stood on one of my shoulders for a while as I was sitting, like a cat I had many years ago used to do. I call it pretending to be a parrot!
