so when I realized she'd never seen or heard of The Sixth Sense, I added it to our movie line-up.

She was actually surprised by the twist. This is such a novel experience, I felt I had to record it for posterity.

We've also watched Empire Records (Eva was deeply caught up in the question of whether or not Joe is actually Lucas' foster father, or if he's just fatherly) and 10 Things I Hate About you (we lost Heath Ledger entirely too soon). Also, unrelated to this all, Jenn and Eva watched Legally Blonde. I was surprised that Jenn had never seen that movie before. She was surprised that I've watched it at least seven times already. I'm not sure which fact is more surprising.

Quiz: Can you guess the city from the vintage travel poster?

After 116 Years, Animal Crackers Have Been Freed From Their Circus Cages (I don't know which is sadder - the thought that PETA thought this was worth their time, or the fact that the top comment, apparently without irony, is simultaneously declaring this unworthy as "it's just a box of crackers" while also declaring that the poster will "never buy another one again". At least PETA didn't hurt anybody with this campaign.)

I saw Legally Blonde just once ages ago, and all I remember about it is my husband, brother in law and myself all agreeing about shipping Ellie (she was named Ellie, right?) with Selma Blair's character.

I'm the same way in regards to plot twists. My mind can see it coming a mile a way. Sixth Sense surprised me too -- when it first came out. It's rare that I'm surprised. This is also the reason that I'm not really a fan of books or shows that rely heavily on plot twists. They are too easy to figure out. Soap operas however are impossible to figure out -- because they defy our earth logic.

On Legally Blond -- there is a musical. It's not that good. But it was filmed and aired on something a while back.

I sort of envy you -- makes it easier to enjoy mysteries when you can't figure it out ahead of time.

>> Eva always always always figures out the twist, usually before anybody else knows there IS a twist

That's kind of a cool superpower, akshually.

I guessed only 4/13 travel posters correctly (and got the right country for another), but I love the art.

I think my favourite thing about Sixth Sense was when I rewatched it and all the little things I noticed that made me wonder how I didn't guess it the first time around. It's still very cleverly done, in my opinion.

I would never have pegged Legally Blonde as the movie that was going to hold up better than 99% of the movies of its time, but I am wrong. I rewatched it myself recently and it was both wonderful and depressing, because we have not gotten out of Ellie's bind yet...

Oh, we loved "Sixth Sense." The way you spiral backward through everything you saw and thought you knew, once that twist is revealed, is amazing.

Really well done, too. Nothing looks ambiguous until you go back and rewatch, and realize that it could be.

I recommend Say Anything, if you haven't already watched it with her. John Cusack is always fun. Also, "Better Off Dead." ;)
